M. Thomas Management, a privately owned family company, has been operating a warehousing and distribution business within the South West for more than 30 years.

The Company is based in Plymouth and operates 200,000 sq ft of commercial warehousing with a smaller domestic storage subsidiary.

140,000 sq ft of space is spread between two facilities in Plymouth with the balance of 60,000 sq ft being in Bridgwater – Somerset .

Each warehouse has its own private rail siding, thus allowing a range of logistic solutions to be offered, whether using national or international rail services or M. Thomas Managements own dedicated fleet of articulated vehicles.

The locations allow a comprehensive commercial logistics service to companies based within the South West, or wishing to distribute goods into the region from elsewhere.

All three warehouses are able to offer a number of different handling solutions thus allowing the company to tailor its services to suit a wide cross section of industries.

For example handling equipment includes counter balanced fork lifts to 4.5 tonne capacity, reach trucks and side loaders.  Attachment range from paper and bale clamps for the paper industry through to carton clamps more suited to consumer electrical product handling.

Warehousing functions include fully computerised stock control and location systems, which combined with M. Thomas Management’s own transport services, allow ‘just in time’ type deliveries of pre production materials to be made into local manufacturers.  Finished goods can then be collected directly off production lines for storage prior to final customer delivery.

Delivery of goods out of storage can be made by a number of methods.  It can be an individual item, couriers or overnight carriers, or larger quantities by one of a number of dedicated sub contract hauliers, dependent on final delivery destination.

The warehouses benefit from a number of security measures, whether passive or active.  Security features extend to the perimeter of each site thus enabling storage services to be extended to goods suited for storage outside.  Products held within this category include building materials, timber, road maintenance materials and heavy plant to name a few.
